The Signal

GENERATIVE / REAL-TIME

An instrument, not an animation.

HYPOTHESIS

A deterministic field of coupled particles can behave like a real dynamical system — with recognizable states (stable, oscillating, unstable, collapsed) — if the parameters map to real physical analogues instead of being tuned to just look nice.

HOW TO OPERATE IT

Seven sliders — entropy, density, frequency, attraction, interference, viscosity, and stability — each perturb the same running system. The field's current state is computed every frame from its own motion, not asserted by the UI.

WHAT WAS DIFFICULT

Keeping the state classifier (stable / oscillating / unstable / collapsed) honest — it has to be derived from the system's actual kinetic variance and drift each frame, not from which sliders are currently turned up, otherwise the labels would be decorative rather than true.

WHAT IT TAUGHT ME

Small, physically-named parameters compose into surprisingly rich emergent behavior — most of the 'interesting' states of the field were never explicitly programmed, they fall out of the interaction between a handful of simple forces.
